Fields x Andromeda

Fields x Andromeda

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Georgia Fields collaborates with the Andromeda String Quartet in this evocative, genre-defying show.

Performing strings-and-vocal arrangements of Georgia’s own songs, as well as a handful of imaginative covers, Fields x Andromeda conjures a sonic landscape that is equal parts elegant and ethereal.

Georgia Fields has been writing, recording and releasing original music for over 16 years, having established herself as one of Melbourne’s brightest and best-loved singer-songwriters. Growing up, Georgia studied the cello; she brings this knowledge and appreciation for the instrument to her freelance work as a string arranger/composer.

Georgia’s third album Hiraeth was independently released to critical acclaim in 2022, enjoying extensive airplay on Triple R and PBS FM, as well as community ratio across the country. The Australian Newspaper gave the album four stars, declaring “Hiraeth feels like a moment of arrival for Fields”. Beat Magazine praised “the synergy between artist and producer”, adding, “her weightless vocal makes us feel airborne... [Hiraeth] beautifully encapsulates the rich complexity of the human experience.”

Career highlights include performances at the Melbourne Recital Centre; Queenscliff Music Festival; State Library Victoria; Memo Music Hall; The Corner Hotel; ACMI; Melbourne Fashion Week; Festival of Voices Tasmania; Brisbane Powerhouse; National Gallery of Victoria; and Mullum Music Festival – amongst others.

The Andromeda String Quartet is Natasha Conrau (violin), Ruby Paskas (violin), Susanna Ling (viola) and Charlotte Jacke (cello). As individuals they have performed in the country’s top orchestras, including the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Melbourne Ring Orchestra and Australian Art Orchestra.

Together onstage, Fields x Andromeda represent an exciting collision of worlds. As an arranger, Georgia boldly integrates live looping with extended techniques from the string players, pushing the boundaries of both her voice, and instruments themselves.

Raw and visceral, yet sweeping with an old-world romance, Fields x Andromeda is a unique collaboration that blurs the lines between neo-classical aesthetics and playful art-pop.

“Plain-speaking love songs, swelling with strings to make George Martin weep.”
